If you are interested in learning the basics and safety of backcountry skiing, split boarding, or snowshoe travel, this is an excellent place to start! This is a 1.5 day class that teaches participants basic avalanche awareness, companion rescue, and provides an introduction to the concepts and equipment used in backcountry skiing, boarding, and recreating.
FRI NIGHT: A 3-hr classroom session in Anchorage.

SAT DAY: All day (class & field session) @ Arctic Valley
-Trip planning & safe travel
-Companion rescue techniques and practice
All levels of beginners welcome. Modes of travel: alpine touring, telemark, splitboard, snowboard/snowshoe, snowshoe.
Required Equipment: Students must have their own backcountry and avalanche equipment including beacon, probe, and shovel*. Skis, snowshoes, snowboards, or nordic equipment are acceptable.
