AIARE Avalanche Level 1 – Black Rapids Lodge (Delta Range)

This course is offered by Alaska Avalanche Information Center and teaches Avalanche Level 1 Safety using the AIARE (www.aiare.info) national standardized curriculum. The course teaches the concepts and skills you need to make good decisions and stay safe in avalanche terrain. It is offered at Black Rapids Lodge in the Eastern Alaska Range.

It is a 3-day course that covers:
Recognition of avalanche terrain
Understanding basic dynamics of snowpack and weather
Understanding avalanche characteristics and problems
Planning and travel in avalanche terrain
Developing a personal framework for making decisions in avalanche terrain
Learn proper techniques and application of effective companion rescue

This training helps you develop habits that will keep you and your backcountry partners alive so that you can enjoy backcountry travel.
